Top Barbados golfer Emily Odwin has created history, as she’s the first Barbadian player to qualify for a major golf championship.
Odwin won yesterday’s US Women’s Open qualifier at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, tied first at the top of the leaderboard with Sarah Lim of the United States, after going back to the clubhouse on the second and final day at three-under-par from the two 18-hole rounds.
Odwin, who had a four-shot lead on Kim after the first round, three-under-par versus one-over-par, had to rely on her consistency, as Kim shot four-under in round two to get the tie.
The top three finishers earned an automatic berth to the 80th US Women’s Open Championship, which is slated for May 29 to June 1 at Erin Hills, Wisconsin.
The other player who’ll be joining Odwin and Lim is Paula Sampedro of Spain, who finished third at two-under-par.
Seventy-six golfers participated in the qualifier.
