The future of Equestrian Sports in Barbados is looking very bright if the 2022 performances of the Children’s Dressage Team and the youthful Regional Jumping Team are proof ofthings to come. These two winning teams had no rider older than sixteen and although the Regional Jumping Challenge is open to competitors of all ages, three young riders, Scarlett Farmer, Abigail Haloute and Jonathan Filardo, were chosen to represent Barbados and copped top place in the Caribbean Equestrian Association’s 2022 Regional Jumping Challenge.
The Barbados Jumping Team won the regional competition with a total of four faults and in a time of 183.97 seconds. In second place was the regional equestrian powerhouse, Bermuda with a time of 198.31 seconds, and in third was Jamaica. Farmer astride Little Vegas and Haloute astride Mickey also took first place podium positions across the region in their respective Divisions at 0.95 meters and 0.85 meters, with the latter riding a blistering time of 51.50 seconds, the fastest of the regional jumping competition.
Bermuda also had to settle for the second spot behind Barbados in the Children’s Dressage competition, when Isla Domenge, Marlie Pinheiro and Rylee Pinheiro, astride Vanity, Man in Black and Clover Lucky Chance scored 212.759% to edge out Bermuda at 203.667%. Trinidad ended in third place in the Children’s category with 195.880%. Barbados also won the top team spot in the Dressage Freestyle Division with Maxence de Leusse leading the Freestyle team with a top regional score of 73% on Royal Diadem.
