From 9-10 December, Barbados will proudly play host to the annual Rugby World 7s Tournament. This year, over 20 overseas teams are expected to make the journey to Barbados for two action-packed days of world-class rugby, set amongst the picturesque and sun kissed west coast of the island.
The Rugby Barbados World 7s Tournament will feature some of the best men’s and women’s club teams from across the globe who will compete for the US $3000 first-place prize money in each division as well as for the prestigious winning title. Teams from Canada, USA, Wales, Scotland, England, Spain, and Trinidad and Tobago have already announced plans to participate in the 2017 Barbados Tournament.
For teams, the Tournament will be a great blend of fun and fierce competition in a premier tourist destination where there is an abundance of unique things to see and do. Spectators will also enjoy watching the high standard of rugby being played in a safe and friendly location close to necessary amenities, historic Holetown, exclusive shopping outlets, and just a five minute walk from the beach.
Barbados Team Captain Sean Ward says local teams are eager to take on some new opponents at this year’s Tournament. “We’re really looking forward to December to get some fresh competition and to give some of the overseas teams a real taste of island rugby at its finest. This year’s Tournament is going to be bigger and better than ever before, and we’re calling on all Bajans and visitors to our shores to come out and support the event”.
Originally held in Trinidad, the Tournament was relocated to Barbados last year and is the longest running Club Rugby 7s Tournament in the Caribbean. Don’t miss out!

Support local rugby in Barbados!
For the very first time, Rugby Barbados World 7s will also be hosting a Charity Dinner on 7 December at the Radisson Aquatica Resort and they are encouraging all those who are keen to support rugby in Barbados to attend.
Tickets are US $ 100 and include a pre-dinner cocktail reception at the Pier, followed by a three-course meal and the world-renowned speaker and rugby player Shane Williams MBE.
Why should I attend?
Ticket proceeds will go towards the ‘Get Into Rugby’ (GIR) Programme and to further supporting the development of rugby on the island. The Programme works tirelessly to reach out to local youth and introduces over 1000 Barbadian children each year to the sport, which is also used as tool for positive social development.
The Dinner features the highly sought-after Shane Williams MBE, former Welsh, Irish and British Lions player who will speak about his rugby career and experiences in the Six Nations and Lions Tours.
