Special Olympics Barbados opens its Annual National Games competitions with a pool full of energy and excitement. On Monday, February 20, athletes, who have been preparing all year for the opportunity, will dive into the Special Olympics National Games Aquatics Meet. Barbados sports fans are invited to come out and cheer the nation’s top intellectually challenged athletes as they put all their skills, training and courage to the test.
The Special Olympics National Games Aquatics Meet will be held at the Aquatic Centre, Wildey. It will feature races in a number of divisions, including freestyle, assisted swim, walk-assisted swim and relays.
The meet opens a very busy time of competition for Special Olympics athletes, culminating with the Special Olympics Annual National Games Track and Field Meet March 6 at the National Stadium. All events on the Annual National Games schedule are free and open to the public.

As in the past, the Special Olympics Annual National Games are being held in conjunction with the Month of the Disabled, March 2012. Special Olympics Barbados is also inviting interested and caring Barbadians to participate in its programmes and activities by becoming volunteers. The organisation is particularly appealing to adults, especially retired persons, to assist in many areas for the National Games and on-going programmes.
