Barbados is in store for two days of exciting and inspiring sports action when Special Olympics winds it up it Annual National Games with junior track and field and cricket. The Special Olympics National Games Junior Track And Field Meet, to be held on Monday, March 26 at the Carlton Grounds in Black Rock, features young athletes, all under 8 years of age. For many of them, this will be their first opportunity to demonstrate to the sports community and larger society that intellectual challenges do not limit the spirit of an athlete. All of Barbados is invited to join in the competition and fun of Special Olympics junior track and field. The event is free and open to the public.
On the following day, Tuesday March 27, teams from various special units across the island, as well as individual athletes, go for the boundaries – and surpass them. The venue for the Special Olympics National Games Cricket Tournament is the Police Sports Club in Weymouth. As with all Special Olympics events, it is free and open to the public.
The Cricket Tournament will wrap up several weeks of events that comprise the Special Olympics Annual National Games, held in conjunction with March: The Month of the Disabled. Competitions have been held in aquatics, bocce, football and, the senior track and field event, the Special Olympics National Games Track and Field Meet.
