Don’t Miss The Special Olympics Football Championship This Friday
It will be a day full of fast-paced and exciting football on Friday, May 10th at the Special Olympics Barbados National Games Football Championship. Special Olympics athletes have been in training and are ready to hit the field for the annual competition, which runs from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at the Police Sports Club Grounds in Weymouth. The Football Championship is a continuation of the Special Olympics National Games, which started in March with track and field, aquatics and bocce. Still to come this year is the Special Olympics Cricket Championship, which is set to bowl off in October.
The participation and support of the community are an integral part of the success enjoyed by intellectually challenged individuals. Cheers and encouragement from fans help build confidence and are a recognition of the accomplishments of the athletes. The Special Olympics Barbados National Games Football Championship is free, and the public is warmly invited to come share in the fun and excitement.
Not only do the Special Olympics Annual National Games provide the joy of competition, but they also help to prepare Barbados athletes for the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games to be held in Los Angeles, California. The organisation is hoping to send a large team to the international competition to represent the country, and Barbadians can assist in the effort by donating to the “Road to The World Games Fund” created by Digicel. Contributions can be made by depositing money into collection tins, which have been placed in all Digicel locations and many other business outlets islandwide.
