The Pan American Beach Wrestling Championship is a 2-DAY Event being held from November 6 -7th 2021, between 10AM and 4PM on Browne's Beach. It’s intended to bring the Americas’ best to Barbados.

The aim is to put Barbados on the map as a competitive Combat Sports destination. Beach wrestling is an enjoyable approach to the international sport of wrestling which is easily accessible to Barbadians, by way of our beaches.

It targets both the adults and children alike. The goal is to have 150 athletes participating in both the male and female age categories. All competitors will have the opportunity to attend Workshops – 1 hr before the start of each event category.

Barbados Wrestling Association will also be sending invitations to athletes from all the member countries of the Pan American Region:

THE HISTORY OF BEACH WRESTLING IN BARBADOS
Beach wrestling was introduced as an international style by United World Wrestling, (the international governing body for wrestling), as another avenue for athletic competition. Beach Wrestling (or sand wrestling) has been a consistent style of wrestling internationally for centuries; Combining elements of all wrestling styles, including Sumo.

Beach events have drawn walk-up crowds when partnered with other sporting events, helping to expand the reach of wrestling through non-traditional venues. This sport has been a past-time of our Barbadian men folk since the seventies.

Over the past ten years the practice has been revived the Barbados Wrestling Association under Rollins Alleyne’s leadership. By way of competitions and has grown steadily over the last two years in attracting regional athletes and being viewed on sports max.

Local athlete Jerome Hoyte is ranked #5 in the Pan American Beach Wrestling Championships held in Bahia, Brazil in 2017, and 2019 athletes Jerome Hoyte and Crystal Holder represented Barbados in the World Ranking Series in Rio da Janeiro, Brazil. Ms. Holder qualified at the aforementioned event to represent Barbados at the World Beach Games in Doha, Qatar where she gain a ranking of #5 in the World in the women’s 60 Kg weight class.
