Racing in perfect weather conditions, skipper Charlie Gloumeau and his well-trained crew displayed their outstanding tactical skills, sailing Bunga Bunga to a convincing victory in the Old Brigand Rum Yacht Race sailed on Sunday.
Second place went to Phoenix skippered by Greg Webster, while Glory Daze with Gus Reader at the helm and Olympian sailor Rodney Reader among the crew, placed third.
The largest boat in the fleet, Paul Johnson’s Rapajam finished in fourth place, ahead of pre-race favourite A-Salt Weapon, skippered by Jason Tindale, who encountered some challenges when Sargassum Seaweed got tangled around the keel of the boat. Geoffrey Evelyn’s Dandelion placed sixth.
At the prize-giving following the race, Head of the Organizing Committee, Anne Tindale, thanked the sponsor R.L. Seale & Co. Ltd. for their continued support of sailing, and President of the Barbados Sailing Association, Renata Goodridge, presented the prizes.
